What are the NAPS and NATS Programs?

NAPS (National Apprenticeship Promotion Scheme) was introduced to proactively create and increase the skilled workforce in India. The apprenticeship comprises of basic, on the job training at a workplace for individuals (ITI/Graduate/Diploma/12+2 Vocational/12th pass/10th pass/5th pass and above), to make them job ready and add value to the organization.

NATS (National Apprenticeship Training Scheme) is a one-year programme equipping technically qualified youth (Fresh Graduates and Diploma Holders in Engineering/ Technology / Architecture/ Pharmacy/ Hotel Management & Catering Technology, Graduates in General streams like B. A/B.Sc./B. Com/BCA/BBA and (10+2) Vocational pass outs) with practical knowledge and skills required in their field of work.

Submitting an apprenticeship contract on the apprenticeship portal on behalf of the employer.

Comparison between NAPS and NATS

The basic differences between the Apprenticeship Training Scheme implemented by Ministry of Skill Development, for Trade Apprentices, and the one being implemented by Ministry of Human Resource Development, are:

  • Unlike as for the Trade Apprentices there is fixed period of one year for undergoing apprenticeship training, and no examination is conducted at the end of the training for the Graduate, Graduate Sandwich, Technician, Technician Sandwich, and Technician (Vocational) Apprentices.
  • 50% of the statutory stipend paid per month to the Graduate, Graduate Sandwich, Technician, Technician Sandwich, and Technician (Vocational) Apprentices at the prescribed rate is invariably reimbursed to all the employer on receipt of their claims.
  • A ‘Certificate of Proficiency’ is awarded by the Regional Boards of Apprenticeship / Practical Training to the apprentices after completing one year of apprenticeship training successfully, on the basis of the grade suggested by the employer.
