What is the Definition of Hiring Manager?

Hiring Managers interview potential candidates and hire the most suitable ones for open positions in an organization. These individuals are mostly executive-level employees or leaders of a particular department, and they act as the new employee’s supervisor. Hiring managers co-ordinate with the HR team as the latter is the one who executes the hiring process and send across potential candidates to the hiring manager for the final interview before making the hiring decision.

What do Hiring Managers Do?

  • After assessing their team’s performance, they decide on whether or not they require individuals in certain roles or not.
  • They obtain requisite approvals from the department and corporate heads to open a job requisition.
  • They work with the HR team to make sure the job description crafted is good enough to be posted and attract potential candidates.
  • They are responsible for setting goals and responsibilities for the hiring team.
  • They manage the hiring team throughout the recruitment process
  • It’s the hiring manager that knows what should go into the interview process.
  • Post the initial interview and screening, the hiring manager takes the final interview to decide if they are the perfect fit for the role.
  • As someone with the responsibility of ensuring the best talent is hired, they market new job opportunities internally and actively ask for employee referrals from peers and teams.
  • They are the ones who make the final decision, pending executive approval.
  • They notify the recruiter if the position no longer requires a candidate.
  • They write job offers and negotiate the terms of the employment contract with the chosen candidate.
