India is a mega giant in the semiconductor space. Several dedicated semiconductor design companies operate in India. Many global semiconductor and electronics companies have set up their captive and non-captive centers in India with a focus on R&D and design/product innovation. Here is where semiconductor recruitment agencies can help.

Despite the disruption that occurred during the local and international lockdown, the semiconductor recruitment markets have recovered strongly and have been continuing the pattern of growth. Whether it is about addressing changes in talent needs or the service models, the electronics and semiconductor industry needs to have strong leaders who are technically sound and digitally up to date and talent that is problem-focused and does not hesitate to innovate.

Roles/Designations in Semiconductor Manufacturing and R&D

Process Integration Engineer

The process integration engineer or process engineer is perhaps the most important role in a semiconductor R&D and manufacturing facility. They are tasked with sustaining production and new product development.

Educational Qualifications: A degree in electronics and communications with knowledge of advanced fabrication techniques and in-depth knowledge of the steps in fabrication is very important for this role.

Design Engineer

A design engineer must oversee the design, development, and integration of complex integrated circuits. The circuits must meet complex power, performance and size requirements that are created by the manager.

Educational Qualifications: A bachelor’s degree in electronics and communication or electrical and electronics with knowledge of VHDLs (compulsory) and possibly even networking related concepts is useful.

Manufacturing Engineer

A manufacturing engineer would be involved in designing and testing new equipment, processes and systems. They will also use statistical control processes to ensure that quality is maintained during the manufacturing process and identify opportunities to improve the manufacturing process.

Educational Qualifications: A bachelor’s degree in electrical and electronics engineering, material science or physics is suitable for the role. Data analysis skills will also prove useful for a manufacturing engineer.

Quality Control Engineer

A quality control engineer is responsible for maintaining the QA and QMS (Quality Management Systems) for chip manufacturing operations. They also create quality documentation and help with quality compliance.

Educational Qualifications: A bachelor’s degree in computer science, electronics or related disciplines is valuable. They must have some experience in quality control in the semiconductor industry.

Equipment Technician

With an understanding of semiconductor technologies, the technician must be capable of testing and troubleshooting and calibrating semiconductor fabrication systems and correct any malfunctions in them.

Educational Qualifications: A certificate or degree in electronics or related fields is necessary for this role. They must be knowledgeable in and have previous experience in repairing and restoring semiconductor fabrication systems. Based on our research, here are some insights:

Our Services

Top Government Initiatives

1

Fiscal Support for Semiconductor Fabs

The Government of India is all set to give the semiconductor industry in India a boost. It begins with fiscal support. Modified Scheme for setting up of Semiconductor Fabs in India extends a fiscal support of 50% of the project cost on pari-passu basis for setting up of Silicon CMOS-based Semiconductor Fabs in India.

2

Establishment of Semiconductor Units

Under the Development of Semiconductor and Display Manufacturing Ecosystems scheme, the Government has given approval for three new semiconductor fabrication units. These units in Dholera, Gujarat will generate 60,000 jobs in India.

3

Modernization of Semiconductor Laboratory

The Semiconductor Laboratory in Mohali (SCL) is undergoing modenization with a shift to more modern manufacturing technology down to 14 nm from 180 nm. SCL will also establish an R&D Centre of Excellence with 300 mm wafer processing. Production capacity will also increase from 700 wafers a month to 24,000 wafers.

4

Collaboration with International Partners

There is an India-US partnership to manufacture semiconductors in the interest of national security of both nations. India and Japan have also signed an MoC (Memorandum of Cooperation) to strengthen their semiconductor supply chains.

5

Focus on Employment Generation

All the above initiatives and the subsidies and other support that the Indian Government has offered the companies setting up semiconductor units in India and countries supporting India in these initiatives is to create jobs in the semiconductor industry. For this it has secured the support of industrial giants such as the Tata Group.
